Hits : 615
Thursday, February 11 2010, 10:30am - 1:15pm

Pre-Lunch Meeting: 10:30am - 11:30am

Topic: Crucial Conversations

Speaker: Greg Stephens - Choice Consulting

Contents:

Every individual, team, and organization has problems.  The difference between the good and the best is not how many problems they have, but that they candidly discuss and resolve them.  Avoiding candid dialogue on critical problems is costly – the best ideas may never be heard.  Mismanaging key conversations may be driving you to withhold vital input, keep silent, or miss out on opportunities to succeed.

During this program, Greg will discuss what constitutes a “Crucial Conversation™” and the skills necessary in creating breakthroughs.  There will be group discussions on the specific barriers people face when stepping up to these difficult interactions and the skills needed to produce positive results.

Greg is a Master Certified Trainer in Crucial Conversations.  He has extensive experience introducing and teaching these crucial skills to numerous Fortune 500 companies and National Organizations.  Clients continually praise Greg for his ability to help them achieve hard-hitting results to the areas where they need it the most.

Praised for his authenticity and ability to inspire personal change, Greg brings a high degree of energy and passion to his work.  His experience coupled with an engaging style has clients asking for his return again and again. Greg received his BBA from Baylor University in 1985.

Post-Lunch Meeting: 12:15pm - 1:15pm

Topic: COSO - Matrix and CSA Approaches

Speaker: Al Bazis - DART

Contents:

Two methodologies that can be used for work within the COSO approach. What are they, how do they work, how are they similar and how are they different? How are they implemented and what are the benefits? Can one be a primer for the other? What skills do we need?

About the Speaker:

Al is a CPA and began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co where he was an Audit Manager. He joined Associates First Capital Corp., an $80 billion financial services company (acquired by Citi), where he was Senior Vice President of Corporate Audit. Associates utilized many best practices in the internal audit department and was an early implementer of control self assessment (CSA) which was used successfully in all phases of audit work. He is currently with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) where he is Director of Internal Audit. DART has adopted a COSO based approach to audits which utilizes a risk /control matrix. This approach would allow for an easy transition to CSA in the future. Al has served on IIA international committees, has served the Dallas Chapter of the IIA as president and is on the chapter’s Board of Governors. He is on the Internal Audit Advisory Boards of the University Of North Texas and the University of Texas at Dallas.
