Post-Lunch Meeting: 12:15pm - 1:15pm Topic: Fraud Triangle Analytics: New Research and Anti-Fraud Technologies Speakers: Vince Walden, Daniel Torpey - Ernst & Young Contents: New research, co-developed by Ernst & Young and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) links people's written communications (found in e-mail, instant messaging, etc.) to one's incentive/pressure, opportunity and rationalization - the three components of the Fraud Triangle that was developed back in the late 1950's. It was recently published in the May/June and July/August 2009 issues of FRAUD Magazine and also discussed in the August 2009 issue of Internal Auditor magazine (page 40). What's unique about this research, is that it is the first time the well-known theory (used in IIA, AICPA and ACFE literature) can be used on an objective basis to essentially score or "risk profile" a collection of people to identify those individuals who are demonstrating attributes of the Fraud Triangle in their communication patterns. This methodology, when combined with an overall anti-fraud analytics program, provides for a powerful combination in mitigating fraud risk, detecting errors or identifying misuse or inefficiencies.
